Beaverbrook Hotel, Surrey...

Last year I was invited to celebrate my birthday at the wonderful, historic, Beaverbrook Luxury Country House Hotel .. a late Victorian mansion set in 400 acres of stunning Surrey countryside.. You can even stay in Churchill's bedroom!

If English heritage and history is your 'thing' this hotel is the place for you!

The mansion was home to one of the most powerful men in 20th century Britain, Max Aitken or rather, Lord Beaverbrook as he became in 1917.  An accomplished financier, politician, author and publisher,  he was Winston Churchill's best friend and also known as, 'The First Baron of Fleet Street'.   The hotel has a long list of famous guests that stayed here throughout the 1900's including, Ian Fleming, Rudyard Kipling and Elizabeth Taylor...

The Garden House...

Our first stop of the day began at the Garden House for lunch..set within a walled vegetable garden, it has a quaint, old English, cottage feel.. we were greeted with a warm welcome and sat at a table with views overlooking the garden... You can also stay in one of the 11 rooms within The Garden House..

Downstairs in the restaurant, the menu is Anglo Italian inspired, the food is wonderfully presented, fresh, full of flavour and a real treat that is different to any other local pubs etc..
( Dogs are welcome in this area...)

fresh produce growing year round...

For lunch I chose the Gnoccillini of goats cheese & pistachio with date puree, wood sorrell and sage.. I wasn't sure if the dish would be filling enough, so went for 6 pieces with a side of Zucchini frites, well it was very filling and the dish itself was divine, I highly recommend dining here and will be returning again very soon!

As it was my Birthday, I was surprised with an after lunch treat in the form of 3 mini brownies, which were extremely yummy and disappeared in the blink of an eye!

After lunch it was nice to have a little wander around the vegetable garden and see all the fresh produce growing...

The Main House...

After lunch we were escorted by golf buggy to the main house to explore the stunning grounds... Once inside, we were treated to a guided tour of the hotel, it was like stepping back in time to an era of pure luxury.. the renovation is first class, with interiors designed by Susie Atkinson and a wonderful 20's style brass bar constructed by Rupert Bevan in the Parrot Bar..

The Main House itself, has a further 18 rooms to stay...

It was time to 'explore' the cocktail menu in the beautiful surroundings of the 'Parrot Bar'.. because it was early afternoon, we had the bar to ourselves, I almost felt as though it was my own home, well one can dream!

delicious...

The Views from the bar are just fabulous...

After drinks, it was time to explore the grounds at the back of the hotel, a stunning garden, peaceful, serene, no one else around, we were left to spend as much time as we liked wandering and taking photos... you can also walk for miles through the Surrey countryside...

Ideal Instagram backdrop!

There is even an art deco cinema to while away rainy afternoons...

Then of course I couldn't write a blog and not mention horse racing, as Marcia Anastasia Christoforides who became Lady Beaverbrook in June 1963 was a leading horse owner & breeder, her horses included... Boldboy, Bustino, Relkino, Niniski, Petoski, Minister Son, Terimon and Mystiko.  She initially had her horses trained by Sir Gordon Richards, then to Dick Hern and Clive Brittain.  Her racing colours were green and brown, to match her Rolls-Royce Phantom VI...

There is a wealth of history to the Estate, I hope i've inspired some to delve further into the Beaverbrook world...

This Spring, the Hotel will also see the opening of The Coach House Spa and The Deli, and if it is anything as luxurious as the Hotel, will certainly be the place to eat, relax and be seen...

Please note: Booking is required before every visit...

I look forward to returning again later this year!
